Meet Nigerian Kaycee Madu, The First African To Be Appointed Minister of Justice in Canada

A Nigerian, who goes by the name, Kaycee Madu, has recently been appointed the Minister of Justice in Alberta region of Canada.

Barrister Kaycee hails from Mbaise, Imo state. He graduated with a law degree from the University of Lagos in 2001, and moved to Canada in 2005 with his wife, shortly after their marriage. The couple is blessed with three children. Kaycee, who has practised law in Nigeria and Canada, was first elected as an MLA in Canada, in April 2019 general election. Premier Jason Kenney elevated Madu on Tuesday, August 25, to the justice portfolio from Municipal Affairs in a cabinet shuffle that saw Calgary-Elbow MLA, Doug Schweitzer, move from justice to an economic portfolio. Kaycee has become the first recorded African-Canadian to occupy either provincial or federal justice positions of the justice minister, attorney general or solicitor general. An apparently elated Kaycee took to his Twitter handle to thank everyone. His tweet read thus: "Thank you, everyone, for all the well wishes. I am beyond humbled to accept my new role as Minister of Justice and Solicitor General – where I will pursue fairness, equality, and justice for all with every ounce of strength I have."
